Girl Scout Volunteer of the Month

Tarica Young - Girl Scout Ambassador

Tarica, daughter of Patricia and Andre Young, is a rising 11th grader at Byrnes High School and a member of Girl Scout Troop 142. “In Girl Scouts, I get to do things I’ve never done before,” Tarica says. Her troop recently visited the Girl Scout World Center in Switzerland. In addition to travel and learning new skills, like performing routine car maintenance or practicing self-defense, Tarica enjoys serving the community. Her troop painted storm drain messages around Spartanburg High School to help eliminate litter and harmful discharges into the watershed. Tarica recently joined United Way of the Piedmont and WSPA NewsChannel 7 volunteers to paint a shelter at Girl Scout Camp Mary Elizabeth. Her troop is planning an “Everyone’s Birthday” Party at Miracle Hill. Tarica explains, “As a Girl Scout, I have many opportunities to network with people, present information and plan with groups, and give back to my community, which helps me become a leader.” Thanks, Tarica, for serving our community!
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

For 97 years, community service has been a cornerstone of Girl Scouting. Our personal growth and leadership development programs afford girls in grades K-12 the opportunity to DISCOVER their own interests and the needs of their community. They CONNECT with others who can help them meet their goals and develop skills for having a positive effect on those around them.

Girl Scouts TAKE ACTION to improve what matters to them, whether it’s in their state, across the nation, and even around the world. To find out how to become a Girl Scout or volunteer, call 800.849.GIRL (4475).

Ready, Set, Serve! is a unique initiative of the legacy Piedmont Area Council, first made possible in 2005 by Celebrate Community grant funding and a partnership with the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

The goal of Ready, Set, Serve! is to increase community awareness surrounding the outstanding leadership and service efforts of our Girl Scout members, by recognizing them in newspaper ad profiles and at special Council events. The grant also provides a Ready, Set, Serve! patch for girls who participate in community service projects.

In 2009, Celebrate Community funding made it possible for our Council to design this website, making it easier for girls and adult volunteers to log their service hours, and share project ideas across the Mountains to Midlands communities.
